Intelligent and simple to use
As citizens live longer and with council budgets tight, the social care system that supports us in our later years is under increasing pressure.
Depending on a person’s wealth, they may be entitled enter into a deferred payment agreement with the council to pay for their care if they have sufficient assets to repay these upon death. This means that they do not need to sell their home when they enter care.
To assist people in understanding how these changes might affect them and whether they would have entitlement to a deferred payment, we have, in partnership with the Department of Levelling up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC, formerly MHCLG) and four local authorities, designed and built an online Deferred Care Cost Payment Calculator.
This included the creation of Open APIs that enable things like maximum interest rates to automatically be fed into the calculator.
